Amurrio Ferrocarril y Equipos, S.A. has already started the supply of high speed turnouts model AV4 for the line that will connect the cities of Mecca and Medina, in Saudi Arabia.

The AV4 turnouts, of entirely Spanish technology, have been designed and manufactured to allow speeds of up to 350 km/h on direct track and 170 km/h on deviated track. In addition, the exceptional environmental and climatic conditions to be endured had to be taken into account in their design.

The total order, placed by Consorcio Español Alta Velocidad Meca Medina, S.A. (CEAMM), consists of 55 high-speed turnouts to be installed on ballast, as well as other low-speed turnouts with the same features, for the equipment of stations, sidings, etc. The final value of the order is 20 million euros.

The logistics of this order are particularly complicated, since the pieces are up to 54 m long and must be shipped from various ports in Spain.

Delivery in record time

In addition, supplies have started in record time, since the contract was signed on January 28, 2015, and the first deliveries should be made by the end of March of the same year.

Amurrio leads the Temporary Joint Venture (UTE) Fabrides, which has been awarded the contract, and is also made up of three other Spanish manufacturers.

The design of the switches and crossings was carried out jointly by the four companies, as well as their manufacture. This same joint venture is also in charge of providing the on-site technical assistance service for the assembly of the turnouts.
